The first weekend of Coachella has come to a close and has successfully blown everyone’s minds away. From Beyonce’s surprise performances to amazing duets such as Cardi B and Chance the Rapper, as well as other acts from a multitude of artists, April 13 through the 15 kicked off the festival with unforgettable performances. So let’s get into it; here are just 5 of the most eye-catching performances to keep you in the loop…for now. 

  1. Beyonce kills Coachella

You might say that there was probably nothing in the world that could make Beyonce be more adored and admired as an artist. How about, being the first woman of color to headline Coachella, as well as bringing back Destiny’s Child together for her performance? One of the many shocking and talked about performances so far, Beyonce performed songs from various albums of hers including “Crazy in Love,” “De Javu,” and of course, “Lose My Breath,” and other nostalgic favorites from Destiny’s Child. Jay Z and Solange even joined her on stage for a couple songs to top it all off.

  1. Brockhampton performance inspired by Kanye

On April 15, the rap group Brockhampton performed at Coachella which drew a full crowd as the group’s opening began with a string quartet whose players were wearing blue face paint. After the performance, the group’s leader, Kevin Abstract tweeted that the incorporation of the string orchestra was inspired by Kanye West’s work. The performance included songs such as “Sweet,” “SISTER / NATION,” and “SUNNY,” from various albums. Along with this performance, the group will also kick off their tour for their newest album Saturation III, later in May. They have plans to also perform at Governors Ball.

3. Angel Olsen performs with Snail Mail

On Sunday, April 15, Angel Olsen performed her set at Coachella with a special duet with Snail Mail’s Lindsey Jordan. Together they performed “Shut Up Kiss Me” from Olen’s 2016 album, My Woman. Snail Mail performed their own set later in the day at Coachella as well and their debut album, Lush comes out June 8th.

 

  1. Kali Uchis brings out Tyler the Creator

Another match made in heaven was made on Coachella’s stage as Kali Uchis brought out Tyler the Creator during her set on Friday. The two artists performed one of Uchis’ most popular collaborative piece, “After the Storm” off of her newly released album Isolation. This album is Uchis’ debut studio album which dropped on April 6, also features other artists collaborating including The Internet’s Steve Lacey, Thundercat, Dap-Kings.

  1. Cardi B and Chance the Rapper 

After getting mass acclaim for her newly released album Invasion of Privacy, the one and only Cardi B took the stage of Coachella on Sunday, April 15th. The larger than life artist performed a larger than life sense, complete with aerial performers dressed in all white as well as some special guests on stage. Cardi B was joined by many other artists including Chance the Rapper, who sang “Best Life” with Cardi. The act also included some other artists that Cardi B has collaborated with including Kehlani, 21 Savage and G-Eazy.
