If you love someone, let them go. That’s one of the oldest sayings in the book, but one of the hardest to take to heart. Letting a person go doesn’t mean forcing them to leave, but simply giving them the option to do whatever is best for them, even if that means departing. On X Ambassadors’ new song “Don’t Stay”, vocalist Sam Harris wants the person he loves to stay, but knows he’s hurt them and they have to do what’s best for themselves; in the chorus, he repeats, “Don’t stay for me / If you got to leave / Do what you need / But don’t stay for me.”
“Don’t Stay” is honest – as X Ambassadors always have been – but feels more soulful. Harris’s vocals are rich and combine with high and low harmonies for a resulting track that feels more confessional than pleading. Listen to “Don’t Stay” below.
“Don’t Stay” comes as the follow-up to “Joyful”, the title track off X Ambassadors forthcoming album. Joyful is due to be released this spring on KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records; pre-orders are available here. A release date for the album has not been announced, but in the meantime, tickets are now available here for all shows on the Joyful Tour this spring.
