What did you do on your 18th birthday? If you’re Noah Cyrus, (who turned 18 on Monday, January 8), the answer is release a music video for “My Way”, a collaboration with British electronic duo One Bit. “My Way” begins with Cyrus sitting at the center of a long dining room table, and we’re soon invited to a dinner party where she is the host. The video is crisp in its visuals, with everything from the supporting dancers to the room to the props split half and half in pink and blue. With frilly, ballet-inspired costumes, it almost nears the point of being just too sugary sweet- but thanks to the choreography (which sometimes feels like an 80s workout video, and others, like artistic modern dance), it veers more on the side of the bizarre. The music video for “My Way” can be seen above.
If you’re not familiar with One Bit, here’s what you need to know. Joe Murphy and Jonty Howard are a writer / producer duo who can play “more instruments than you can shake a stick at.” They describe their location as “a field not too far from London”, and have provided remixes for artists like Catchment, Tei Shi, Confessionals, Etta Bond, and Dr Meaker. One Bit’s collaboration with Young Animal Hearts, “Outlier”, was featured in an Apple Music ad that aired during the 2017 Brit Awards, and within a week of release, “My Way” became Radio 1’s “Tune of the Week”, reached nearly a million streams on Spotify (it’s now sitting at more than three million), and made its way onto several prominent playlists, landing at #16 on the World Viral Chart (#3 on Spotify UK’s Viral Chart).
Noah Cyrus has released a handful of singles, and her debut album NC-18 is expected to arrive later this year on Syco Music. A release date has not yet been revealed, though we’ll be sure to let you know when it is; follow Substream on Twitter so you don’t miss an update on all things Noah. In the mean time, check out her official Spotify playlist.
