Initially formed as a solo project for singer Shane Butler while on tour with Quilt, Olden Yolk is a New-York based group that has developed a unique psychedelic sound that draws on motorik rhythms, intertwined vocals, and a taste for abstract poeticism. Following their split from experimental folk singer, Weyes Blood, Olden Yolk became a collaborative project between Butler and multi-instrumentalist Caity Shaffer.

As they prepare for the February release of their debut album, Olden Yolk has released their first single “Takes One to Know One” along with a dystopian music video to accompany it. Serving as an ode to the passing visages found in the kiosks and bodegas of metropolitan America, “Takes One to Know One” finds solace in this year of disillusionment with instrumental inspiration from Krautrock artists like Jaki Liebezeit (of German band CAN). You can pre-order their debut album here which will be out on February 23rd.
