Lord Morgan and producer EyyELL have been tiptoeing through the Richmond district’s rap game for nearly half a decade now. Their first couple of releases saw the duo latch onto whatever style was trending at the moment before finally deciding to pull in the reins in 2013. A renewed and more narrowed focus allowed Lord Morgan and EyyELL to find themselves at home in a sound feels genuine to who they are as artists without completely abandoning the feel of their previous material. With this in mind, the two are poised and ready to make waves in the second half of 2017.
From the jump, it’s clear that Lord Morgan has no qualms about cutting right to the meat of things on “Really Want,” the third single from his upcoming sophomore album, Vibration Is Player. The track opens with chirping synths that are soon are met with a raucous cry that sees Lord Morgan challenge those he doesn’t believe to be at his level, exclaiming “Leave ya stale ass at home if you ain’t bumping VIP” before diving into the charmingly cocksure hook of the song that sees the repetition of the phrase “I know what you really want/VIP.”
That “charmingly cocksure” vibe is one that sits at the forefront of the single and only works because it’s backed up by the undeniable talent that Lord Morgan boasts as he effortlessly blows through verse after verse before re-affirming that he knows what we really want, and that’s VIP.
