Katy Rose is the kind of artist that likes to make the most from the least. Instead of relying on trendy production, she relies on her voice and a minimalist soundscape to push her music. Her sound harkens back to the mid-to-late 90’s — an era full of certified bangers like Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” or Shawn Colvin’s “Sunny Came Home” — but with a bit of a modern twist.

Today, we’re sharing the music video for a new Katy Rose song called “Bleed.” The track is true to form for Katy Rose, as it features just her smooth vocals choosing to sing the praise of the positive aspects of her life and relationships and a chunky synth that swells around a grounding chorus of “We can always bleed.” Visually, the music video matches the vibe Katy Rose has curated. A close crop on her face is symbolic of both the stripped-down nature of her brand of pop music and the vulnerability on display in each of the verses on the track.

When asked about the song, Katy Rose says “‘Bleed’ is about acting without the greatest dignity or grace. It’s about those relationships that should never have happened in the first place. It’s about selfishly letting sexual or social encounters drag on longer than they deserve to for no reason other than to ensure you’re not alone, at the end of the night, with a mind consuming itself. Ultimately, I guess, it’s an honest tale of not being the best version of yourself.
