Over 18 years, 6 albums, and 2 EPs, The National have rarely missed a beat. Release after release, the Ohio band have always delivered. The band’s upcoming seventh release, Sleep Well Beast, will be out on September 8, and we have no reason to think it will be anything less than spectacular. Case in point, the band shared a new track called “Carin at the Liqour Store” that will blow you away.
Like the best the band has to offer, “Carin at the Liquor Store” is a song brimming with emotional depth. The track is named after vocalist Matt Berninger’s wife Carin Besser and seems to follow his infatuation with her, along with some themes of addiction and alcoholism. All of this is delivered a subdued instrumental, letting the story of the lyrics speak.
The track also comes with a performance video, which you can watch above. Sleep Well Beast is set for release through 4AD, and The National show no signs of slowing down as they approach their 20th year together.
