EDM superstar Marshmello has released his newest track, “Silence”, and this time he’s teamed up with critically-acclaimed young artist Khalid to provide the vocals. It’s almost a ballad- just with a beat drop instead of a guitar solo or other interlude- as Khalid croons, “I found peace in your violence / Can’t tell me there’s no point in trying.” Dance music and R&B may seem like an unlikely combination, but trust us- it works.

In the “Silence” lyric video, which can be seen above, a blank wall and stack of cardboard boxes take the place of a DJ booth as words, video clips, and hypnotic visuals are projected against them. The light show is not unlike the production seen at an EDM show- it’s just done at home instead of at a rave. In a nod to his signature helmet, images of Marshmello’s eyes even flash across the “booth”.

“Silence” comes just a few days after Marshmello debuted the “Find Me” video, the latest in a running narrative of clips that shows his journey from high school to college, this time landing at a frat party.

In the middle of a run of European festival performances, Marshmello will be headlining the Billboard Hot 100 Festival at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York on August 20.
