Loving yourself can be hard. Many of us struggle with self-love and self-care every single day. Multi-instrumentalist Jordan Rakei is just like the rest of us in that regard, a topic he covers on his new single “Nerve,” taken from his upcoming album Wallflower.
“Nerve” has a fantastic musical texture to it, the bass line and organ mingling into a rich and full listen. Over this Rakei sings his struggle with finding the means to find and appreciate himself, a difficult prospect to be sure. In a statement, Rakei said ““The song is about the concept of loving yourself wholly and truly before you offset that love onto others.”
Wallflower is out on September 22 and will be Rakei’s first album with English label Ninja Tune. If the rest of the album is at the same level as “Nerve,” we’re in store for an emotional and musical powerhouse of a record.
