“Have you ever seen a film called The Room?”

The question above is typically the last thing a fan of film hears before their life changes forever. The Room is a 2003 film written, directed, and starring Tommy Wiseau. The story follows Johnny, a successful banker who lives happily in a San Francisco townhouse with his fiancée, Lisa. One day, inexplicably, Lisa gets bored with him and decides to seduce his best friend, Mark. From there, nothing will be the same again. You can view a fan made trailer for the film below:

Fans of The Room know it to be one of, if not the best-worst film ever made. It is a disaster from top to bottom, and because of this it has become something of a cult sensation. Even today, when there are more entertainment options than ever, The Room is playing in a theater somewhere around the globe to a packed house quoting nearly every line. It’s an event unlike any other, and now a movie about its crazy production is finally coming to light.

This December, A24 will release The Disaster Artist, which is based on a book of the same name about the making of The Room. James Franco stars as Wiseau, with Seth Rogen, Dave Franco, and numerous other notable faces filling in the rest of the cast and crew. The film was a massive hit when it screened at SXSW earlier this year, and this morning we finally got our first look at the finished product by way of an official trailer (as seen at the top of this post).

The Disaster Artist opens in limited release on December 1, 2017 before opening wide on December 8, 2017. You probably don’t need to see The Room in order to appreciate this film, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to do so. Just be warned: Your life will never be the same.
