It’s a busy day for fans of Thee Oh Sees. First order of business, that’s not their name anymore. John Dwyer announced today that “Thee” is no longer part of the name, renaming the band Oh Sees. Dwyer also announced the release date for a new album and shared a new single.

Let’s cover the single first. The track is called “The Static God” and instantly puts to use Paul Quattrone, who joined the group earlier this year, on drums. The song takes frequent breaks to spiral in squealing guitar insanity, and it rockets along with punk influences through the rest of its runtime. As its called “The Static God,” there are parts that are so overwhelming it verges into static-like quality (in a good way!).

The album is Oh Sees’ 19th effort in some form or another. The album is called Orc, and you can see up above the album artwork does indeed show one of the fictional creatures. The album will be released on August 25 through Castle Face Records.
