Let’s face it: The world is a scary place right now. Regardless of your political alliances and religious beliefs there is no denying the life right now on planet Earth feels unlike anything we have experienced before. There is an uncertainty that can only be eased through the comfort of human connection. As with so many things, the problems we face today are made less awful through love, but it can be hard to remember that when hard times come our way. Thankfully, that is why John Legend exists.
This week, John Legend released his official video for the Darkness and Light track “Surefire.” The clip, which doubles as a short film from Cole Wiley, follows a young mixed race couple as they face a number of challenges from every corner of life, including separation as a result of deportation. Through it all the thing that keeps them sane is the love they share, which no man-made barrier can block.
The release of “Surefire” comes ahead of Legend’s latest North American headlining tour. His current run begins tonight, May 23, in Texas and wraps at the Essence Festival in New Orleans on June 30. Legend will head overseas in Septemeber for a run of headlining dates that begin in the UK. Ticket and show information can be found here.
