Julien Baker‘s sophomore album Turn Out The Lights is one of our most anticipated releases of the fall. The first single “Appointments” was stellar, as was the music video that went with it. This morning Baker shared the music video for the newly released title track from the album, and it’s safe to say we’re looking at in Album Of The Year candidate.

“Turn Out The Lights” is Baker at her best, pairing slowly building music with an emotional intensity that is unparalleled and deeply affecting. “There’s no one left between myself and me,” she sings, and that sense of isolation and turmoil speaks volumes.

The music video was directed by Sophia Peer, who also directed the “Appointments” video. This time around, Baker is walking through a forest when she finds a mysterious burning fuse. Through the runtime of the video she follows the fuse through the woods to a farm, and eventually to its burning source.

Turn Out The Lights is out on October 27 through Matador Records. Baker’s tour, which was originally announced in July before the album announcement, begins tomorrow and will run through the end of the year.
