Presence — the moniker of Southern California recording artist Jonathon Martinez — is the latest Nettwerk Records signing to begin their breakthrough.

His decade-long journey to this moment began when he was around 12 years old and used music as an outlet to help his anxiety and helps discover his true self. Martinez’s first release honed in on his roots as a rap fan in Camarillo, California at age 14 with this first “Presence Raps” video — a freestyle over “Ten Toes” by BubbaGotBeatz. Despite ultimately getting grounded by his parents when they found out, Martinez stuck with it.

So much so, that he ultimately first went viral not long after when he did a remix of XXXTentacion’s “Jocelyn Flores.” This success ultimately put him in a position of needing to decide whether music was just a fun outlet for him, or if he should commit to Presence as a true artistic avenue and pursuit it fully. Ultimately, of course, he chose the latter.

What has happened since is nothing short of remarkable for Martinez, building his fanbase through the release of over two dozen singles that have racked up over 100 million streams, signing with Nettwerk, and delivering his own TEDTalk titled “The Power of Authenticity and the Internet.”

Now today, Substream is thrilled to be teaming up with Presence to exclusively premiere his new single “RUNNING BACK 2 YOU!” ahead of it’s release tomorrow, April 19th. The song marks a new chapter for the artist, pushing his musical boundaries and exploring a side that fans have yet to see. All of this in a good way, though, and fans will surely find “RUNNING BACK 2 YOU!” is one of his most impressive songs released to date.

“‘RUNNING BACK 2 YOU’ is the foundation of everything else that will come this year,” Martinez tells Substream. “This song is what the music has sounded like in my head for a long time, but I didn’t know how to pull it out. Its conception felt like a weight lifted out of my chest… I needed to make this song. Creating it let me know I was capable of a lot more musically than what a lot of people (including myself at times) felt I was capable of. I’m not sure I’ve ever been more proud of a song.”
