IDLES release new music video for “POP POP POP”
IDLES has just released their latest music video for “POP POP POP” which appears on their new album TANGK. Directed by Stewart Baxter with creative direction by Joe Talbot and shot by Ed Norton, the video focuses on lead singer Joe Talbot as the music’s gritty, hip-hop-tinged groove propels him forward.
“It’s a song about the beauty of having a kid and understanding how lucky you are to have a kid. And there’s a sense of a cycle when you have a child, when you’ve lost a parent and a child. I have a very huge sense of gratitude and weight behind being a parent because of what I’ve lost. I’m not saying I’m a better parent, or more connected because of that. But for me, I’m more connected than I would have been, I think, because of what I’ve lost. I’ve learned a sense of just joy from seeing her joy. And I think that’s amazing. And powerful. And I’m very grateful.”
– Joe Talbot, vocals
“POP POP POP” follows the release of previous videos for “Dancer,” (with backing vocals by James Murphy and Nancy Whang), “Gift Horse” and “Grace,” which is effectively a recreation of Coldplay’s iconic “Yellow” video, but with deepface AI tech used to give the impression that Chris Martin is instead singing “Grace,” with Martin helping to train the AI to make his vocal performance more realistic.
IDLES’ 2024 world tour continues to expand with many of the North American tour dates already sold out. They’ll kick off the first leg in Vancouver, BC at PNE Forum on May 3rd, with the second leg beginning September 14th at Asheville, NC’s Rabbit Rabbit and finishing in Mexico City.
