In case you missed it in the haze of Friday, Michi has released her second ever single, “Still Feel U”. The new solo project of North Hollywood native Michelle Guerrero, Michi was borne out of Guerrero’s five year run as the keyboardist and backing vocalist in indie R&B outfit Private Island. Two songs in, she’s already established her own unique sound: a charming, shimmering ode to 70’s retro-indie pop, with a breezy, dizzying splash of dreampop thrown in. Listen below.
Of the song Michi says: “It’s a summer night embodiment of escaping a funk and rediscovering a lust for self-appreciation.”
“Still Feel U” follows Michi’s debut single, “Catch A Feeling”, a mid-tempo alt-pop song with shades of R&B that was released earlier this summer. The chorus conjures memories of Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You,” and the easy pace of the track engenders feelings of romantic nostalgia that makes us long to see what’s next for Michi.
