“I still find your face in every memory I wish I could erase.”

Extreme Mark Hoppus VoiceHello there, the angel from my nightmare.” I sing to you as I appear to regale you with another serendipitous story about the email that lead me to become the first fan of your new favorite band, Hot Mulligan. I’ll never forget laughing off their name, send the email to my archives, or the waves of embarrassment and stupidity that washed over me in the first few seconds of “Buy A Fire Extinguisher Before You Need A Fire Extinguisher” that lead to me shouting into the void about this band for the next three years.

I can’t believe we’re here or that it’s already been three years. I can’t believe that I’m talking about Hot Mulligan’s debut album, Pilot, or that it’s coming out on March 23 in partnership with No Sleep Records. I guess it’s time to try and take off the “proud dad” glasses now and finally get to the thick of things. I wish y’all could see the joy on my face as I type this, but I’m feverishly excited to be able to share a new song called “The Soundtrack To Missing A Slam Dunk” with y’all.

~clears throat~

Only in the post-Valentine’s Day comedown do I feel comfortable airing my grievances with the holiday-namely: spending it alone-and I just want some time to feel a little bitter, roll my eyes in the face of love that’s being forced down my throat, you know? And you know what? It feels damn good to hear these feelings echoed in a chorus of “You used to be the reason I was happy every day/I’m probably better off without you but I wish you would have stayed/I hope there’s a highlight reel of nights we had on loop inside your brain/I still find your face in every memory I wish I could erase.” So let’s get together, howl this chorus at the moon, and sob into our half-priced heart-shaped box of chocolates.

When asked about the track, vocalist and guitarist Chris Freeman says: “This song was an experiment all around, and I think it showcases all of our best elements. We wanted to make something with a catchy chorus and hooky lead to keep the whole song interesting, and we went a little out of our comfort zone with the lyrics on this one. I think this is the only song we have that comes from the perspective of someone else, and we’re really excited about that.”

“The Soundtrack To Missing A Slam Dunk” can be streamed below.

Pilot will be available March 23 on No Sleep Records. Snag your copy here. Hot Mulligan will be spending a bulk of this year touring in support of the record. All upcoming dates can be seen below.
