Some people dream of changing the world, but sometimes the biggest dream we can have is making a difference in someone else’s life. There’s no telling how many lives we’ve touched, since often it’s the smallest interactions that leave the greatest impact, but if someone has touched your life, it’s worth telling them. When all is said and done it’s the people in our lives that matter the most, and there’s nothing more gratifying than knowing someone notices us and that they care. BANNERS’ song “Someone To You” is a love song but also a confession of loneliness and an admission that sometimes what we need most is knowing we’re as important to someone else as they are to us, as he sings in the chorus:

“And if the sun’s upset and the sky goes cold
Then if the clouds get heavy and start to fall
I really need somebody to call my own
I wanna be somebody to someone
Someone to you”

Banners released “Someone To You” as a single over the summer, and has now dropped the song’s accompanying music video to go along with the release of his EP Empires On Fire. The video was directed by duo Similar But Different (Charlotte Fassler and Dani Girdwood), who also brought us Mainland’s video for “I Found God.”  Shot on location in New York, it takes place entirely at a high school. BANNERS walks the halls playing an acoustic guitar, leading the way as a group of outsiders are followed from the classroom to the cafeteria to the library to the locker rooms. Life looks like it just might slap them right in the face, but with the help of BANNERS they’re able to turn things around. Finally it’s prom night, and at the end of the dance our zeros become heroes when they choose to spend their night with the ones who have been by their side the whole time.

Empires On Fire is out now via Island Records. Listen to the EP below, and if you like what you hear, you can catch BANNERS live this Monday, November 6 at Mercury Lounge in New York with Dean Lewis; Saturday, December 2 at Channel 93.3’s Not So Silent Night in Broomfield, Colorado; or Friday, December 8 at Ski-QX in South Londonberry, Vermont. No further touring announcements have been made, but stay tuned for updates as we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop on all things BANNERS.
