Hailing from St. Clairsville, Ohio, Down They Fall is a pop-folk solo project started by Gage Vota in 2011. Though the band has gone through several lineup changes since the start, Down They Fall returned to its roots as a solo project in 2015. But no matter who joined Vota in his venture, he continued to create music he’s passionate about, and because of that has acquired quite a devoted fanbase. Recently, James Becca has stepped in to help Volta round out the recording process for Down They Fall’s upcoming EP due out May 5.

Today, we are thrilled to bring you the video premiere for “Heartichoke.” The somber track, which touches on the heavy subject of depression, is a perfect example of Down They Fall’s signature pop folk sound. While the lyrics tackle a serious subject, they’re washed away with the upbeat piano chord and trumpet that plays throughout the track. When asked about the meaning behind “Heartichoke,” Vota said:
Heartichoke is about trying to move on with your life and doing what you want no matter what people tell you. It’s also about dealing with depression and wondering if life is even worth living.”
