Tree Machines debuted their music to the world in March of 2015 with their debut self-titled EP. Fast forward to 2017, and the Los Angeles transplants, by way of Lawrence, Kansas, are gearing up to release their first full-length album after a lot of soul searching and life changes.

Up For Air, due out September 1, finds the band–consisting of Douglas Wooldridge and Patrick Aubry– coming out of a vulnerable and lonely state and emerging as a more confident and energetic group.

Today, we are excited to premiere the music video for “Weights and Stones” off the upcoming record. The video showcases a beautiful dance piece while the song tackles the idea of breaking free from anything holding you back. It’s a commentary on Tree Machines breaking away from their previous band and reinventing and becoming completely happy creating new music away under a new name.

When asked about the music video, Wooldridge said:

“The dancer, Sonic, is the star of this video and she absolutely killed it. This was a really fun concept to work with her on. We wanted her to come off as fierce, like a ‘take no shit’ kind of fierce. I think she nailed it. The basic story of ‘Weights and Stones’ is about empowering anyone to break free of the chains and brush off the weights that keep us locked in place, whether that’s a bad relationship, or a job you hate, or even a city you can’t stand to live in anymore. I got the inspiration for this video from the Flume and Chet Faker video for ‘Drop The Game.’ Something about having movement and expression out in the wild really stuck with me and I had to give it a shot.”
