Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter brought the Running Through Colors Tour to Chicago on Valentine’s Day

On a cold, snowy night in Chicago, Phantogram fans filed into the Aragon Ballroom to see their favorite duo play songs from their new album along with some of their classic hits. Ever since the mid 2000s, Phantogram have been a staple of electronic pop and have consistently delivered hit after hit. Their most recent album, Memory of a Day, is a true love song to their fans who have been by their side for nearly 20 years. Memory of a Day is also an exciting look at Phantogram’s future, filled with synths, Barthel’s powerful vocals, and energetic songwriting. Their Memory of a Day tour has already drawn in thousands of fans across the country, so it was no surprise that their Chicago show was packed.

The Aragon Ballroom is a perfect venue for Phantogram. The nearly 100-year old venue boasts massive balconies and a galaxy mural on the ceiling. As their band opened their set with “Jealousy” and “Don’t Move”, Barthel and Carter moved like they were in a trance. The dark lights and occasional bursts of strobes often made it look like they were floating across the stage. Their packed setlist left very little room for the group to talk to the crowd, but both Barthel and Carter made a point to thank their fans for coming and supporting them on this tour.

The band made it a point to shift between high-energy pop songs and slow trance tracks, keeping the audience guessing what was to come. Following a non-stop setlist of 15 tracks, the band’s encore featured two of their most well-known hits: “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore” and “When I’m Small”.  It was the perfect way to close their set, leaving fans wanting more and mentally counting down the days until the duo come back through Chicago.

Phantogram are ending their tour in California this week, but tickets are still available for those dates HERE.
