X Ambassadors + Jacob Banks Aragon Ballroom // Chicago, IL // April 27, 2018
Chicago was treated to one of the most energetic shows of the year.
The show that X Ambassadors put on at the Aragon Ballroom could have fit right at home at any of the biggest stadiums in the country. Brothers Sam and Casey Harris walked onstage (Sam walking Casey to his keyboard, as Casey is blind), and Sam immediately got the crowd going with the first song. It’s surprising the three-piece band didn’t sell out the ballroom, as their popularity has only grown since the release of their hit single “Renegades” in 2015. X Ambassadors have managed to keep their original fanbase while gaining tons of new fans with the release of their upcoming album, Joyful. While awaiting the album’s release, fans have been treated to glimpses of new music as part of the#BeJoyfulTour. For their Chicago show, they pulled out all the stops and had everyone eagerly awaiting song after song.
Not only did X Ambassadors put on an incredible show, the opening act was just as exciting. Jacob Banks, a rising blues and R&B musician, has been making waves with his single “Chainsmoking,” and his tour with X Ambassadors has only helped him to become more popular. The English singer is reminiscent of Gary Clark Jr. and Leon Bridges whose deep, soulful voice perfectly compliment his heartfelt and often melancholy lyrics. His hit “Unholy War” has been used in tons of commercials and TV shows; the song has a somber, creepy tone and celebrates Banks’ identity as a black man. Banks will be making his way through summer festivals, including Chicago’s North Coast Festival in September.
Both Jacob Banks and X Ambassadors gave the audience all of their energy, and everyone in the crowd was immediately filled with love and energy. Once Joyful is released, it wouldn’t be a surprise if X Ambassadors moved from the Aragon Ballroom to Soldier Field or United Center; their fanbase will surely only get bigger.
