It seems to be one hit after another for Marshmello: not long after he brought us the remixes for “Silence” and his original track “You & Me”, on which he’s the one singing, he’s back with another collaboration. This time, the DJ has teamed up with Selena Gomez for his newest track. This one is called “Wolves”, and the energy builds- slowly at first, then a little faster- as Gomez as sings about “running through the jungle” and “running with the wolves” just to get to the one she loves.

Selena Gomez told Zane Lowe on Beats 1, “This was a song that I heard in Japan for the first time, and I was talking to Andrew Watt who is one of the writers I worked with for years, and he actually just played me a rough version and I thought it was really beautiful, and he sent it to Marshmello and created a really cool tone and a story with it, and the song is very beautiful and personal and the lyrics just have a whole story of its own. Weirdly, at the same time I was working on it in Japan, I was going through stuff, too, so it’s mirrored everything.”

To go along with “Wolves”, Selena Gomez and Marshmello have created two separate videos. The first, which can be seen above, is a visual shot in the traditional horizontal format. It’s a moody clip that appears to be shot from underwater, while Selena is still, perched on a platform over the water as if she’s about to jump in. The second is a vertical video which can be seen exclusively on Spotify here. In the vertical video, Selena is FaceTiming Marshmello. She’s singing along to the track while dancing around the house, wearing a pink bathrobe; Marshmello, meanwhile, is a man of few words- after a few short texts to Selena at the beginning, he remains in the corner of the screen, nodding along.
