I’m not sure anyone expected the Planet Of The Apes franchise to take off like it did when the series was rebooted in 2011 with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Both Rise and its follow-up, 2014’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, were solid, if not great, films. While both of those had moments of levity and camaraderie between the species, it looks like that has ended in the first trailer for War For The Planet Of The Apes.
The trailer focuses on the laments and resolve of the two main characters. First we have the ape, Caesar (Andy Serkis), who muses that while the apes didn’t instigate anything and even offered the humans mercy, they won’t hesitate to fight to protect themselves and their future. On the other side is Colonel (Woody Harrelson), who acknowledges that the humans have been getting their butts kicked by the apes while preparing for the final battle to determine the fate of the Earth. With a bunch of sweeping nature shots, the film looks gorgeous, and the battle sequences look like some excellent action fare.
