Despicable Me movies are an excuse for Illumination to print money, and the latest film in the saga of Gru looks to be no exception.
The first trailer for Despicable Me 3 has arrived, and much to our surprise it features very few Minions. Instead the clip introduces us to Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who’s grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the ’80s. He’s billed as Gru’s greatest nemesis and looks as if he fell out of a time machine, but what really piqued our interest is the fact that he is voiced by South Park co-creator Trey Parker. You can view the new footage below:
The official synopsis for Despicable Me 3 is pretty cut and dry:
“Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), a child star from the 1980s, hatches a scheme for world domination.”
The lack of Minions in the trailer may worry some young viewers, but there is no doubt those delightful yellow creatures will be returning along with everyone else. The only real question is whether or not kids are burned out on the hijinks of Gru. What do you think? Comment below and let us know your thoughts.
Despicable Me 3 opens everywhere next summer.
