The new year is just days away and like many of you we are preparing to make our pilgrimage to Colorado in order to be part of the biggest New Year’s celebration outside of New York City. Decadence Denver begins this Friday, and we’re here to help you make the most of your experience.

Decadence kicks off at 6:30 PM this Friday, December 30. The performance schedule has not been released, so you might as well get there early and settle in for two epic nights of live performances from some of the biggest names in electronic music today. It’s easy to have a fun time at events like this, but if you really want to make the most of your time on-site these five tips will provide some guidance:

Accept the fact that your phone will not work:

When you pack thousands of people into a small space the likelihood of anyone being able to send a call or text, let alone a photo or video message, is practically zilch. You might not believe this now, but that fact is actually a blessing in disguise. To fully experience Decadence and enjoy what it has to offer you need to escape the worries of your day-to-day life beyond the Convention Center doors. Give yourself over to the energy of the moment and live in it for as long as it lasts. This is the key to creating memories that last a lifetime.

On a more practical note, you should also recognize the lack of reception so that you and your friends can make arrangements to meet in case you get separated. Set a meeting place and time. No totems are allowed on the premises, so think ahead and come prepared.

Wear comfortable shoes!

Two late night dance sessions will take a toll on your feet regardless of what you wear, but you can soften the blow by wearing your most comfortable shoes to Decadence. Even if it makes you feel like a so-called ‘responsible adult’ for doing so, buy insoles and use them if needed.

Sleep.

Each night of Decadence runs from 6:30 PM until 2:00 AM. Add travel to and from the venue and you’re looking at eight full hours of activity each night at an absolute minimum. You are going to want to party hard all day and night, but trust us—Decadence is far more enjoyable after a good night’s sleep. Make the most of your late nights by resting well into the following day. Your body will reward you by providing the energy needed to enjoy the following day.

As Makonnen says, “Drink more water.

Drinking lots of water is absolutely essential to maximizing the fun you will have at Decadence. Two nights of nonstop dancing across three rooms bursting with electronic music fans is a lot of exercise—a fun exercise, but exercise nonetheless. A lot of attendees will also not be used to the higher altitude of the region, which will only add to your body’s need for water. There are hydration stations around the venue that make finding water and consuming water incredibly simple. Do not risk your health. Drink more water.
