If there’s a constant that runs through all the films and media of the Alien franchise, it’s that people are not (at least at first) equipped to deal with any alien life, let alone one as terrifying and deadly as the Xenomorph. Our heroes usually prevail, but it’s after a sizable body count has built up. This looks to hold true in the first trailer for Alien: Covenant, released over the weekend.
The trailer reveals that David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic from Prometheus, is still alive, alongside a cast of new characters, members of the space shuttle Covenant. Of course the planet they land on includes a crashed Space Jockey ship and some of the mysterious black goo from Prometheus. Things precede to go south very quickly, with one of the crew members gruesomely transforming, plus quick glimpses of both a Facehugger and a fully grown Xenomorph. Pretty damn spooky. Alien: Covenant lands in theaters on May 19. Directed once again by Ridley Scott, the film also stars Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Billy Crudup.
