The xx have a new single and a release date for their third album

The xx have been making some noise recently. A few weeks ago they announced international tour dates and shared a pretty great playlist. It turns out they were getting us ready for today, when the band not only announced that their third studio album has a release date, but also gave us the first single from said album.

First, the song: Titled “On Hold,” the track is an excellent and heartbreaking duet with Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim sharing vocal duties. The expansive and captivating trappings and vocal distortion found in the song also point to Jamie xx being in rare production form for the new album.

Speaking of the new album, it’s called I See You and is coming on January 13, 2017. In a statement on Facebook, the band stated, “We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way.” Listen to the new single below via Spotify.
