Back in July, we had the honor of announcing the brand new album from Astoria, New York’s Side Saddle with a stream of the eight-track effort’s lead single. Now, as the album is set to be officially released this Friday, October 28, we’ve teamed up with the band once again to stream it in its entirety for you to enjoy.
Led by Ian McGuinness of the now-defunct but never forgotten This Old Ghost, Side Saddle has been on the rise in the indie rock ranks since its very first single, “Reverie,” was released in the earliest days of 2014. With two excellent EPs and a full-length since, the band is ready to broaden their reach with their second LP, aptly titled Stunner.
Between the immense depth of sound in their instrumental layers, the resonating melodies and harmonies, and McGuinness’ distinguishable vocals, Side Saddle offer a one-of-a-kind formula truly worth your attention amid a genre spilling over with sameness. If you enjoy the works from bands in the vein of Good Old War and Band Of Horses and are in the market for something fantastic, listen below and let us know what you think.
Speaking to Substream about the new album, McGuinness says, “‘Stunner’ was mixed by Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Belle And Sebastian) at Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow, Scotland. Working with Tony was a dream come true and it would not have been possible if it weren’t for our supportive fans, friends, and family via our Kickstarter campaign.
“This record and these songs allowed everyone in the band to flex their muscles,” he continues. “Within the context of a darker, heavier sound, our guitarists, TJ and Ryan, were able to do what I feel like they’ve always wanted to do. I feel like we’ve all been really careful and delicate when building songs in the studio but this time around, everyone turned up to 11 and went for it. This is also the first recording with new drummer, Rich Bozek. He’s incredible and we’re lucky to have him. This is also the first time we’ve ever made vinyl so we made sure everything sounded as good as it possibly could.”
