The ‘Logan’ trailer promises a very different kind of X-Men movie

We’ve been hearing that Logan, Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as Wolverine, would not be like any X-Men movie that has come before. Even though his last standalone movies were bad (Origins) and mediocre (The Wolverine), the expectations have still been pretty high. With the release of the first trailer for Logan, it looks like those expectations are going to be met.

The film takes place after the end of something truly catastrophic. The world appears mostly deserted and ruined, and Logan informs us that mostly all of the mutants are now dead. Logan himself lives an isolated existence and is looking sad and worse for wear. It takes Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) coming along with Laura (Sienna Novikov), a small girl with the same abilities as Wolverine, for him to spring into action. Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) plays our main villain, and we get a look at Stephen Merchant covered head to toe as mutant-in-hiding, Caliban. And of course, it wouldn’t be Wolverine if the rage didn’t take over and the claws came out. With everything set to Johnny Cash’s rendition of “Hurt,” it’s a bleak trailer that seems to signify an equally bleak movie.

Logan is set for release on March 3, 2017. James Mangold is on hand to direct. You can watch the trailer for the film below.
