If you’re ever in need of an internet deep dive to kill some time, reading about the Assassin’s Creed video game series is a good option. With a multitude of games and a fictionalized world history about the fight between the Assassins (good guys) and Templars (bad guys), you can lose a few hours learning about it all. This winter, Assassin’s Creed is coming to theaters, and if the second trailer is anything to go by, it will be a worthy entry in a storied franchise.
The first half of the trailer is set in modern times. Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) has been captured by the Templars, led by Sophia (Marion Cotillard) and Alan (Jeremy Irons) Rikken. Callum’s ancestor, Aguilar, was an Assassin during the Spanish Inquisition, and Callum will be reliving his memories through a device called the Animus. What follows is a minute of some very stylish parkour and some very physical and intense fight sequences. Justin Kurzal (Snowtown) looks to have a firm grasp on the historical action and modern intrigue that has made the video games so beloved.
