PREMIERE: Alcoa reflect on life with “What A Fool”

“Everything’s changing, and I just stay the same.”

The line above can be used to describe the way we have all felt at one point or another in life. As we grow our perception of the world around us begins to evolve, and sometimes we don’t feel as though we are changing nearly as much as everything around us, but in time we often come to find out we were. Defeater frontman Derek Archambault’s alt-country solo vehicle Alcoa has long been a source of grounded exploration through the human experience, and his latest offering, “What A Fool,” is no exception.

You may have heard of Alcoa before now, but if you have never made time to explore the music created under that name then today may be a day that changes your life forever. We have partnered with Derek and his bandmates to premiere “What A Fool,” which is one of two songs Alcoa will release on an upcoming split with Choir Vandals that is due in stores November 4 through Bridge 9 Records. The track is left over from the studio sessions that created Alcoa’s last full-length, Parlour Tricks (released in 2015), but nothing about the material presented feels outdated. This is a song for the world we live in right now, and it makes existing in this crazy reality a bit easier. Give “What A Fool” a listen below:

As I mentioned above, the untitled split between Alcoa and Choir Vandals will be released in just a few short weeks. Pre-orders for a limited vinyl pressing of the record are available now on the B9 Store. The complete track listing is as follows:
