Deathstroke to be played by Joe Manganiello in solo Batman film

It was only the end of August when we found out that the upcoming solo Batman film would feature master mercenary Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, as the main villain. Thanfully we didn’t have to wait all that long to discover who would be playing him. Earlier today The Wall Street Journal confirmed that Joe Manganiello will be behind the orange and black mask.

Most readers will probably recognize Manganiello from one of two places: his role in True Blood as Alcide Herveaux, or from the Magic Mike films as Big Dick Richie. While those are his more recent roles, Manganiello is not a stranger to superhero films. Manganiello played bully Flash Thompson in the first of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies all the way back in 2002. He might have switched from Marvel to DC now, but he’s still playing a bully. It’s just this time the bully is one of the best assassins in the world.

We’ve enjoyed Manganiello in everything we’ve seen him in (including Netflix’s underrated Pee-wee’s Big Holiday), so we’re excited that he’s joining the DC Extended Universe. While you patiently wait for the Batman movie to be made, check out the rest of our coverage on DC’s thematic efforts.
