Mat Kerekes (Citizen) premieres debut solo record

Mat Kerekes

Mat Kerekes, the versatile frontman of grungy, Michigan-based emo unit Citizen, has premiered his debut solo record via Brooklyn Vegan. Listen to Luna & the Wild Blue Everything below.

Stylistically, Luna & the Wild Blue Everything serves as a sizable departure from Kerekes’ recent work with Citizen. The soundscape is broad with acoustic instruments and lush harmonies, violins, bells, and other comforting tones. Surprisingly, Anthony Green shows up for a guest vocal spot on “Direction,” making for an album highlight. It’s a calm retreat from the often angry and constantly abrasive sound of Citizen’s 2015 sophomore record, Everybody Is Going To Heaven.

If you like the new record, there’s still time to pre-order.
