Phantogram get bleak on new single “Run Run Blood”

Back in June, Phantogram announced their third studio album, conveniently entitled Three, and released the single “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore.” Now, the duo released “Run Run Blood” from the album, and as you can probably guess from its title, the song is pretty heavy.

The track finds Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter musing on life right now over aggressive and sonically dense synths, their voices given detached and robotic effects during the verses. “Say goodbye to your family,” Barthel advises during the hook. In a statement to Stereogum, who premiered the track, Carter says the song “is about the sad state of the world we live in today. It feels like the blind leading the blind sometimes.” Cheery stuff! With a darker sound and darker subject matter, “Run Run Blood” points towards Three being a compelling new album from the duo.

You can listen to “Run Run Blood” for yourself now. Three is arriving on September 16 through Republic. In the meantime, check out our interview with Phantogram from March if you haven’t already.
