Some filmmakers challenge themselves to adapt their work to meet the demands of whatever story they choose to bring to life. Guy Ritchie is not one of those filmmakers. Whether he’s giving us an underground boxing tale (Snatch), a twist on a classic detective in old-timey England (Sherlock Holmes), or bringing to life the classic tale of King Arthur, Guy Ritchie makes Guy Ritchie films.
The first trailer for King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword debuted at San Diego Comic-Con earlier today. As with all Ritchie projects, the trailer features quick cuts, fast dialogue, quips, and a sprinkling of slow-motion action. Charlie Hunnam stars as the title character, offering the former Son Of Anarchy another shot at being the next big name in action films. You can view the newly released footage below:
Hunnam is the best part of this trailer, but I am curious to see if Jude Law can find something great in his turn as a villain. The cinematography is gorgeous to look at, but I just don’t know if the world has any desire for another sword and shield movie right now. Game Of Thrones is obviously huge, but this is not that. Let’s hope I am wrong.
Here’s the official synopsis:
“When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.”
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword arrives in theaters on March 24, 2016. Comment below and let us know your thoughts on the first trailer.
