Take your first look at ‘Kong: Skull Island’ with this new trailer from Comic-Con

Kong Skull Island

Legendary’s 2014 Godzilla film was a solidly entertaining summer action flick. The human actors did just enough to get us to invest in them during the times the titular monster wasn’t on camera. The production company appears to be striking that balance again in the first trailer for Kong: Skull Island, the second film in a Godzilla/King Kong series of movies Legendary is making in the next few years.

The first thing of note is how phenomenal the cast is. With leads James Conrad and Weaver being played by Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, respectively, plus a supporting cast including Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and Corey Hawkins, this is a movie with some serious star power. The group goes to Skull Island to survey, despite the fact there are no scenarios in which going to a place called Skull Island will end well. True to form, they get stranded on the island, where King Kong reigns supreme. We don’t see a lot of the giant gorilla, but his presence is certainly felt throughout, whether in the giant handprint on the side of a mountain or the bones of dinosaurs that might have gotten in his way. When we finally do get a glimpse of Kong, it’s clear that he’s nothing to mess with. The trailer seems close in tone with Godzilla, with a ton of action even outside the titular monster.

Kong: Skull Island is being directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and is set for release in March 2017.
