If you’re even a casual reader of comics, you probably know that Marvel has something called a Multiverse, a number of different universes and realities that contain different timelines and different versions of their heroes. So far, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has stuck to one reality, but that’s about to change this fall. Doctor Strange received a Comic-Con trailer, and it’s pretty crazy.
The first trailer we got a few months ago found Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) mostly in over his head with the whole “alternate realties and magic powers” deal. Here, we get to see him harness that power under the tutelage of The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton, whose casting in the role has sparked controversy). We see much more of Strange’s interactions with Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Wong (Benedict Wong), plus our first look at Mads Mikkelsen as the very, very creepy villain Kaecilius. There’s also another quick shot of Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, but no clues as to how she’ll fit into the plot of the film.
Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is the next Marvel movie set for release, and is headed to theaters on November 4.
