Descendents stream return album, ‘Hypercaffium Spazzinate’

Descendents 2016

It’s been too long since the last Descendents album. In the twelve years that have passed since the release of Cool To Be You, pop-punk has died and been resurrected several times—sometimes more successfully than others—but one ingredient has always been missing from the stew. Thankfully, Descendents have returned to shove caffeine down the throat of the genre and give it the energy and spunk it so often lacks these days. Listen to their new record, Hypercaffium Spazzinate in full below, via NPR.

“Each time we make a record it’s almost like the first time all over again,” says Descendents drummer Bill Stevenson. “There’s a quote from Ornette Coleman about how the song is the territory, and what you do with the song is the adventure. We’re definitely still going on all these little adventures together.”

Thus, Hypercaffium Spazzinate is one hell of an adventure. Blink and you’ll miss the band’s extended hiatus of the aughts; the new record fits right in with the rest of their discography, and it feels like they never left. Listen for yourself below.
