Icelandic post-rock torchbearers Sigur Rós are back with a characteristically gorgeous new single titled “Óveður.” Concluding their recent live stream expedition “Route One,” the band has shared a video for the track which you can view below.
Apart from a consistent catalog of leading post-rock virtually unrivaled by their peers, Sigur Rós have the good fortune of living in one of the world’s most breathtakingly beautiful locales (please watch the entirety of Heima). Because of this, any visuals the band release that have been filmed in their homeland of Reykjavík and its surrounding areas are simply going to be better than anything else being shared, by default. This notion is further evident in the Jonas Åkerlund-directed video for “Óveður.” However, as gorgeous as the landscapes appear, the video highlights a jarring dichotomy that really takes effect at about the five-minute mark. The video becomes chillingly disturbing and graphic with blood, nudity, and other grotesque imagery, earning a pretty firm NSFW tag in the process.
“Óveður” can be purchased through various platforms here. Details regarding Sigur Rós’ assumed follow-up to 2013’s Kveikur have yet to be revealed.
