As they prepare to release their newest album through Hopeless Records on June 17, U.K. band Trash Boat have taken to their ‘The Things You Wrote Me Sessions’ to perform an impassioned cover of Polar Bear Club‘s Chasing Hamburg track “Drifting Thing.” As their second cover in the series—following their take on Foo Fighters‘ “Everlong”—Trash Boat vocalist Tobi Duncan offered the following when asked about the choice to cover this particular PBC favorite from 2009:
“‘Drifting Thing’ was among a selection of tunes that were hugely important to me and my closest friends. No matter where we were or what we were doing, if that tune came on we would all be shouting along with it. We went to see Polar Bear Club live a few years back and managed to encourage an encore by singing it acapella after they left the stage; they came back on and told the crowd that they would love to but they couldn’t do it as they had a session guitarist who didn’t know how to play it. I raised my hand and said that I could, so they let me up and I got to jam it on stage with them. It’s still one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me.”
