Idaho’s Feel Better might as well take their own handle into consideration as a heartening daily mantra—and maybe they already have—but when listening to the band’s newest track, “Stuck,” you might feel compelled to offer them some words of encouragement and motivation.
Touching on all-too-familiar themes of feeling unfulfilled with the minutiae of routine daily life, “Stuck” is subtly tragic mostly because of the relatability in its lyrics. The instrumentation reinforces this notion, though, brilliantly melding elements of indie rock and emo in the ways bands like American Football, You Blew It!, and Penhold have so effectively. It’s a potent one-two punch of the best this genre has to offer, and it’s indicative of a bright future for a budding band from Boise.
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Joel Parmer explains the moment the song began to take shape:
“I was struggling with work/life balance at the time we wrote ‘Stuck.’ I wrote some potential lyrics on the back of a pay stub and came to the realization that while I was actually making a good amount of money for once in my life, the pay wasn’t worth the fact that I didn’t have time or flexibility to do what I genuinely wanted to.”
“Stuck” is taken from Feel Better’s forthcoming, self-titled album that’s set to release on July 15 through Really Rad Records. Digital pre-orders are available through Feel Better’s Bandcamp, while physical pre-orders can be obtained through Really Rad’s webstore.
