We’ve written about Brendon Urie and the men of Panic! At The Disco several (hundred) times in the past, but this may be the first time ever that the name Lil Dicky has graced our website. That’s honestly a shame because the rapper known as Lil Dicky—whose real name is David Andrew Burd—has some real talent that is all too often overshadowed by his larger-than-life stage persona. Still, there is never a better time to start than now, and Dicky just released what may soon be the biggest single of his career.
Premiering online late last week along with its official video, “Molly” is a song about realizing the one who got away may have actually gotten away for good, and all that pain that follows. These are all new themes for Dicky, who has previously ridden a wave of success spawned from his ability to poke fun at seemingly every aspect of life and always see the bright side of dark times. Call it progression or simply being honest about where he is in life, but this version of Dicky’s music hits home in a way nothing in his back catalog can pretend to replicate. It’s raw and at times even heartbreaking, yet still riddled with memorable lines and a hook that just won’t quit.
The video for “Molly” finds Dicky attending the wedding of his long lost love under the slight delusion there may be some small hope left for his broken heart. He knows she’s taken, but that doesn’t change the way he feels. You can view the gorgeous clip—which finds Urie participating as part of the band playing the wedding reception—below:
Lil Dicky wrapped up his most recent U.S. tour on June 4 in Philadelphia. We’ve heard rumors he will be touring again in the near future, which would make sense given the release of this single, but at this time we have no further information regarding his current plans. Stay tuned.
