The first trailer for Disney’s ‘Moana’ is a delight

We’ve been getting quick peeks at Disney‘s next animated musical, Moana, for a while now, but tonight during The Tony Awards we were gifted the first trailer for the film. After watching it multiple times over, we’re optimistic that Disney has made a winner (no surprise there).

With the film set in the South Pacific, the trailer gives us a good long look at the demi-god Maui (played by the one and only Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), as he tries to impress the titular protagonist, Moana (Auli’i Cravalho in her first-ever role). She doesn’t seem too impressed by him, even if we think his moving tattoos are pretty cool. After that, we get a few action shots scored by a quick snippet of Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) singing, presumably from one of the songs that he helped write for the film.

Disney has brought about as strong of a team as possible to Moana, with frequent Disney collaborators Ron Clements and John Musker (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Princess and The Frog) directing and longtime Pixar and Disney presence Osnat Shurer (shorts Lifted and One Man Band) producing. Johnson, Cravalho, Miranda, Clements, Musker, and Shurer all working on the same film is sure to produce something truly special.

Take a look at the teaser trailer for Moana below, and be sure to mark your calendars for November 23, when the movie hits theaters.
