It’s been quite a week for Beach Slang, no? First, the Philadelphia-based quartet reportedly broke up onstage during a show in Salt Lake City, a rumor pushed further forward when their next show in Boise was canceled. Then, as the internet began mourning this promising punk band gone too soon, surprise! Beach Slang actually decided not to break up, and has since continued on with their current headlining tour in support of their debut album The Things We Do To Find People Who Feel Like Us (or TTWDTFPWFLU for short—which really isn’t any easier, is it?).
Now, as anyone who has attended a Beach Slang show before knows, it’s safe to expect a variety of covers of the Replacements and Jawbreaker peppered throughout their set. What no one could have expected was a member of Jawbreaker actually joining Beach Slang onstage to perform with them—but that’s exactly what happened last night, May 5, at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California, when Jawbreaker drummer Adam Pfahler took over the drumkit for a rousing rendition of “Boxcar” off Jawbreaker’s 1994 classic 24 Hour Revenge Therapy.
Given Pfahler hasn’t performed this song publicly in about 20 years, he did a pretty bang-up job (minus that brief moment after the second chorus where he forgot he was supposed to drop out). Watch the live video below!
Beach Slang’s current headlining tour with Potty Mouth and Dyke Drama continues through May 21, and who knows—maybe Tommy Stinson will join them onstage for “Bastards Of Young” somewhere along the road:
