Pup, otherwise known as Canada’s greatest gift to the world, are back. Having spent two years touring relentless to promote their SideOneDummy Records debut album the band has just announced plans to release a new record titled The Dream Is Over on May 27. They also released a new single, “If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You, I Will,” along with the track’s official video. You can view the clip below.
As you can likely infer from the song’s title, Pup’s new single is all about the reality of spending your life in a tiny van with your closest friends. It’s a dream come true situation for any musician, but it’s also a perfect recipe for trouble. As frontman Stefan Babcock recently explained to Dan Ozzi at Noisey:
“These guys, I mean, we’re best friends,” says frontman Stefan Babcock. “We get along really great, but we’re in a van together all the time, we sleep on floors next to each other every night. For the most part, it’s really awesome, but once in a while…” He trails off and looks around at his three bandmates who are stifling smirks about some shared tour disasters they’re clearly all remembering at the moment. “…It’s hard.”
The video for “If This Tour Doesn’t Kill You, I Will” finds the members of Pup taking the song’s title quite literally by trying to murder one another in increasingly elaborate ways. Their best efforts are ultimately in vein however, so the band puts their anger aside to perform at a packed house show while the song’s back half builds to a massive climax that will have you singing along in no time at all.
Pre-orders for The Dream Is Over are available now, and we have heard the vinyl variants are moving fast. If you dig this song, and you absolutely should, then you would be wise to claim your copy of the record as soon as you are able.
