PREMIERE: Teen Agers’ ‘Young Gods’ EP is a ripping ’90s indie-punk throwback

No, the members of Orlando, Florida’s Teen Agers are not teenagers—they are deep into their 20s and 30s, in fact—but the music they perform still carries with it a vibrancy usually only available in youth, when getting into mosh pits is your No. 1 mission each weekend instead of something you dread when your favorite ’90s punk band swings through town on a reunion tour. Teen Agers’ new EP, Young Gods, feels like a record out of time, one where Big Drill Car and Brown Lobster Tank aren’t just jumbles of random words but viable musical influences. Guitarist Jordan Shroyer explains:

“Recording Young Gods was such a fun and laid back experience. We tracked it at our buddy Dan Byers’ studio in St. Petersburg. A lot of what you hear musically on this is just us in a room playing live together. Jamie Woolford (from one of my favorite bands, the Stereo) mixed this thing and really made it the recording we’d always dreamed of. I seriously can’t wait for everyone to hear this thing!”

Teen Agers’ Young Gods EP will be released March 11 via Smartpunk and can be pre-ordered here.
