PREMIERE: The Format’s Sam Means starts fresh with “Other Side Of You”

Sam Means

One half of Arizona alt-pop duo the Format, Nate Ruess, went on to sell millions of records and win a Grammy with his new band fun., alongside collaborating with P!nk and embarking on a high-profile solo career. The other half of Arizona alt-pop duo, Sam Means, has been largely quiet since the band dissolved in 2008. But now, Means is ready to embark on a solo career of his own, with the release of his debut full-length 10 Songs. Today, we’re debuting the music video for one of 10 Songs‘ catchiest numbers, “Other Side Of You.” Instead of going the traditional music video route, Means instead recruited his 6-year-old daughter Lola to write and direct the whole thing, resulting in an adorably quirky clip for an already enjoyable song. Means explains:

“My daughter and I had a few hours to kill the other day, so I presented her with the idea of writing and shooting a music video for me. Surprisingly, she not only agreed, but completely embraced it and within an hour we had a story, some really shaky footage and most importantly, tons of fun.”

Sam Means’ 10 Songs is available now via Hello Records. If you already have it, consider ordering a copy of Substream #50 which includes a four-page feature on Sam Means.
