The four-piece indie rock band known as Kaleo is ready to show America what they’re made of. Their U.S. tour officially started last week, along with Firekid as the opening act. The band, who hails from the small town of Mosfellsbaer, located just outside of Reykjavik, Iceland, has since signed to Atlantic Records and has moved across the globe to Austin, Texas, to work on new material.

“It was always our goal and dream to be performing and recording in America,” vocalist/guitarist JJ Juliusson says. “We’re thrilled, very excited.”

Throughout their career, Kaleo has performed in support of acts like Anderson East and Vance Joy, and has played at festivals including Bonnaroo, Firefly, Life Is Beautiful and Austin City Limits. That’s not to mention that the band’s single, “Way Down We Go,” has had more than three million Spotify streams and received airplay on Sirius XM’s The Spectrum.

“It’s been physical, to be honest because we’ve been here in the States now for a year and we’ve been touring a lot,” Juliusson says, adding the band has played in about 40 states to date.

While Kaleo had a heavy touring schedule throughout 2015, things look about the same for 2016, as their “Way Down We Go” tour just started.

“It’s different because you’re so established back home,” Juliusson says. “People come out singing with every song, and here people are still discovering us. It’s definitely growing, now more and more people are coming to the shows here and more people know the songs. but back home it’s different. We prepare the same way. This tour we’re expanding our show with lights and other stuff for the show itself.”

Juliusson says Kaleo will be heading to Australia after the tour, along with playing various music festivals during the summer.

“I have no doubt in my mind that this year’s going to be very busy,” Juliusson says.
