Billy Talent drummer to sit out new album recording sessions due to MS relapse

Sad news from the Billy Talent camp: Drummer Aaron Solowoniuk has announced via video message that he has to “step away [from Billy Talent] a bit and focus on my health” due to a relapse of his Multiple Sclerosis, or MS—a condition he has lived with for more than 15 years. This means he will not play on Billy Talent’s new album, due out later this year.

“Over the past six or seven months, I’ve been dealing with a relapse. I’m going to be switching medicine this week and doing everything I can to get healthy,” he says. “With MS, these symptoms I’m having right now are slowing me down.”

Filling in for Solowoniuk for the time being will be Alexisonfire drummer Jordan Hastings, who is currently recording with the band. Solowoniuk, also an accomplished photographer, will still be present in the sessions, documenting everything with his lens. You can see his full announcement below.

Billy Talent has a European tour lined up this June; it is unclear whether Solowoniuk will be back behind the drumkit by then. Dates:
